5 nights in Singapore!

Welcome to Singapore.

Capitalising on its melting pot of cultures, Singapore is finally getting some spark, and is fast becoming one of Asia’s hit-list destinations.

Wow where do i start?  It was the first time for Max and myself to visit this clean and beautiful city called Singapore.  It was his birthday so I decided to take him there as a surprise.  It was a short direct flight only 5 hours from Perth so that was a bonus.

MARINA BAY SANDS.

Our first 2 nights we stayed at one of the most popular hotels in the world, The Marina Bay Sands.  Imagine yourself floating in the world’s largest rooftop infinity pool, gazing down at the city skyline from 57 meters above.  You won’t find a more spectacular photo-taking spot anywhere where is Singapore.  This place does get packed so we recommend going early in the morning for the perfect photo if you don’t want to get photo bombed haha.

The marina Bay sands complex also has its own casino and three-story shopping centre.  You will find here many designer retail shops, great food and also a venetian style gondola boat ride. The whole shopping centre is mind-blowing.

GARDENS BY THE BAY.

Theres plenty of things to do around that area including Gardens By the Bay which is a must.  Think of a beautiful green nature park spanning 101 hectares with 3 waterfront gardens, 2 cooled conservation domes, the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest.  Huge super trees 25-50 meters tall, covered with exotic ferns, vines and orchids that come to life.  They light up with amazing colours at night powered by solar energy during the day.   The Garden Rhapsody plays every night at 19:45 and 20:45 @ Super Tree grove.

ART SCIENCE MUSEUM.

We visited the Singapore Art Science Museum on the waterfront.  You will pay about $30 entry but its something we wanted to experience as we knew the photos and videos we could get would be worth it.

Crystal Universe  – In the surreal cosmos of dazzling, digitally projected stars, encounter astrophysical phenomena such as planets, galaxies and even gravitational waves.  The artwork uses 170,000 LED lights which together give the illusion of stars moving in space.  It actually felt like we were on a hollywood set.

Light Ball Orchestra – The kids and kids at heart (and Max) were having a ball of a time playing with the orchestra of multi coloured balls.  When you would touch one it would change the colours and sounds of the balls, creating a resonating effect throughout the dazzling environment.

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS.

The next day we let our inner child/ adrenaline junkie side come out and decided to visit Universal Studios.  We always plan on arriving somewhere early to beat the crowd but even arriving at opening time this place was packed with lines of children and families as far as the eye could see.   We felt a little old surrounded by little kids however this did not dampen our spirits.

We purchased the VIP tickets which gave us access to the quick lines.  I would recommend getting these tickets because waiting time for popular rides can be up to 3-4 hours.  The longest we waited was for The Transformers 3D ride.   It took us about 45 minutes however we thought to get the most popular ride out of the way first but I think all of the people at Universal Studios were thinking the same.

We spent half a day here as it was getting quite hot and busy.   We tried most of the popular rides including The Transformers 3D, Human vs Cyclon and the indoor coaster Revenge of the Mummy.   Universal Studios is so huge and it was awesome to walk around and look at all the displays and the cartoon characters.  It was such a cool playground for all ages.

JW MARRIOT.

Our last 3 nights we spent at the JW Marriot in South beach.  I had purchased a package on Luxury Escapes which included 3 nights with breakfast, afternoon tea and a help yourself bar where you could have spirits, wine and beer free of charge.  We are not  big drinkers but if you are someone who loves a drink or 3 or if you are thinking of going with a group of friends I would definitely recommend It.

The JW Marriot was a brand new hotel which was recently built.  A contemporary hotel with a spa and another roof top infinity pool.  What really captured our eye was the coffee table and chairs they have put on the pool in foot deep water.  You could enjoy a cocktail or a coffee overlooking the city or sunrise.

INSTAGRAM SPOTS.

Our last days we spent going on what we call  “Instagram Hot Spotting”.  Yes I was forced to walk in the heat to find what Max was describing as a couple of “funky coloured houses”.  Literally located just in a random street which many tourists come to take photos of are 5 houses all in a row painted different colours.  Joo Chin Road they called it, It was pretty cool actually and it makes for an awesome Instagram photo.

From there we visited China Town and Little India.  We jumped on the train as its pretty easy to get around on public transport.  The trains were so clean and cool with air-conditioning. We went back to China Town at night-time to see some of the temples and to check out the night food stalls.

SINGAPORES HIGHEST ROOFTOP BAR.

Our last night we visited  1 Altitude rooftop Bar.  The 360 views of the city and sunset was breath-taking.  It’s the highest alfresco bar in the world and one of the best in Singapore.  We had the most amazing cocktails and it was definitely a perfect way to end our stay here in Singapore.

I don’t think we could have packed any more in the 5 nights we were there.  Although Singapore can be pricey in the popular places its defiantly a city I would recommend anyone to visit.  It was truly beautiful and the people of Singapore where so friendly.  They take pride in looking after the city and keeping it clean.

We loved our Singapore Fling!!
